The koran teaches muslims to migrate, and convert the people of the new lands to islam.
Islam rates emigration so highly that the islamic calender only started when Mohammed emigrated from Mecca and went to Medina. Emigration is a very essential way to spread islam all over the world and is seen as a highly important form of jihad in islam.
The koran states there are only two ways to guarantee that you will go to heaven:
1.) Kill and be killed in the name of Allah (jihad).
2.) Die while emigrating to spread islam (hijrah – jihad by emigration).
(Note: technically there is a third way, your good deeds must outweigh your bad deeds. But since it impossible for any person to count their good and bad deeds, this one is all but useless for any muslim.)
Jihad and hijrah are the core of islam and can never be separated.
